I used to think walking was just a way to get from Point A to Point B. Turns out, it’s also a low-key form of mental health magic.
When you walk, your brain shifts gears. Literally. It starts syncing left-right-left in a way that helps process emotions. That’s why people say, “I just need to clear my head” and then pace like they’re auditioning for a Nike ad. Also, walking outdoors has bonus perks: sunlight, birds, and possibly eavesdropping on a couple arguing about Trader Joe’s granola.
You don’t need to be a fitness person. You don’t need a step goal or fancy sneakers. Just move your body for a bit. If it helps, pretend you’re the main character in a rom-com, walking to the beat of your own emotional glow-up montage.
Also: dogs. If you can borrow one, walks get 57% better. Science probably says that.
Journal Prompts:
- How do I feel after going for a walk?
- What does movement do for my mood?
- Where is one place I’d love to walk just to think?
Visual Content Idea: Draw or visualize a silhouette of a person walking with headphones, thought bubbles around them with calming ideas (“I’m okay.” “Breathe.” “Keep moving.”)
